BOD Family

Think back over the last few financial discussions you had in your home.  When did they occur? Where did they occur?  Who was present? What was going on? The same questions apply to any sensitive topic in your home: children, intimacy, in-laws, or religion.

For most of us, we usually discuss such topics during a commercial on TV or between rounds with the children. We don’t put a lot of thought or effort into scheduling time to discuss matters of importance like our mortgage, our retirement, and most importantly our family relations. Forecasting the Future

Forecasting the Future

In 1993 I started a weekly economic newsletter for Real Estate professionals. I wrote that paper for a couple of years and followed closely certain segments of the financial market. In particular I noticed that most talking heads and so-called experts had relatively low batting averages.

Clarity

· Do you know your retirement number? How much will you need during retirement?

· Do you have enough?

· How much time will it take? What do you need to change?

What’s a System’s Malfunction?

If you follow this blog at all, you will have seen the following Deming quote repeatedly:

‘94% of all failure is a systems malfunction.’

In short this means that people rarely cause an error. This includes your husband, ma’am! People are usually no more than unwitting symptoms of organizational problems. Your family is an organization. Your marriage is an organization. How you talk with each other and your children is a system within your organization.
